Character name: Takagi Keisuke
Fandom: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor
Timeline:
Age: 17
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: He can summon demons through his COMP, though no more than two at a time.
How would they use their abilities?: To defend himself and anyone else.
Appearance:
Background/Personality: Keisuke grew up with an exceptionally normal family, consisting of himself, his parents and his younger sister. Somehow, though, he ended up with a very strong sense of justice, which means he was incapable of watching anyone doing anything wrong by his standards, not without saying or doing anything. For the most part this was directed towards bullies: whenever Keisuke saw bullies turning on another kid, he would step in and stop them. But Keisuke wasn't particularly strong or charismatic, so inevitably the bullies would then turn on him instead. But that was fine, because he'd stood up to them, and what he couldn't stand was staying back and simply watching as someone else had to suffer.
One of the kids Keisuke saved this way was Kihara Atsuro, and they became friends in middle school. They drifted apart, though, and ended up going to different high schools. And it's at some point after they drifted apart that Keisuke changed. Again he saw a kid being bullied and as always he stepped in to help, but this time was different. Instead of being grateful, the victim joined the bullies in turning on Keisuke. And that was something he wasn't prepared for. What was the point in saving them if they only turned cruel themselves? And so at some point he gave up.
Keisuke turned pessimistic and cynical, and simply did his best to avoid the bullies, who were now focused on him almost entirely. He's running from these bullies one day when he meets a strange, white-haired man, who out of nowhere asks him if he wants power. Keisuke is given a COMP - a small communications device which looks exactly like a DS - and the man disappears again. When Keisuke turns the COMP on, though, it takes about a split second for him to realise it's not exactly standard issue. The demon he just summoned makes that a little obvious. Thankfully, though, the COMP also enhances Keisuke's abilities, making it possible for him to defeat the creature he just summoned. And after that, he can get demons to obey him. He can summon two at a time to fight with him, he can buy new ones at some strange auction the COMP gives him access to, and he can even fuse the demons he has into an even stronger one.
Another ability he gains is a number that appears over people's heads: a death clock. This tells him how many days they have left to live, assuming they will die within the next nine days.
There is a reason for the COMP being handed to him, though, and he's not the only one who gets one. There is a black-out in Shibuya, and the next day the entire area inside the Yamanote line is placed under lockdown. The official explanation is a poison gas leak, but the truth is the government is attempting to contain the demons now infesting the area. Armed guards block any way out, and are on the lookout for any suspicious behaviour, and anything related to the demons.
Late on the first day Keisuke runs into Atsuro, who is with the protagonist of the game, as wel as a girl named Yuzu. But seeing their death clocks read 'zero', Keisuke bails. Atsuro, who remembers the brave Keisuke from middle school is confused, and won't accept that's why he left He says he's not that kind of guy. Keisuke, though, simply saw the number and assumed it's hopeless. At this point, Keisuke's death clock reads one.
He runs into them again later that same day. Atsuro and the rest are looking for a hand-controlled charger for their COMPs, as otherwise the batteries will run out soon and they won't be able to defend themselves. But at this point, the number above Atsuro's head has changed to 2. Keisuke can't believe it, and actually sticks around this time, showing them where they can buy these chargers. He's so impressed that they managed to change their fate, that he actually confesses why he ran away last time. And he's noticed one more thing, which he shares with them: no one inside the Yamanote circle has a number higher than 6. Meaning in 6 days, something will happen to kill absolutely everyone. But if this group managed to change their fate once, maybe they can do so for everyone. Or so he hopes. Still, after that, he leaves again.
The next day Keisuke runs into a girl, Midori. They are surrounded by demons and he tries to convince her to leave, but she refuses. There are people trapped underground who won't be able to get away, and she can't let them just die. Desperate, he summons demons in front of her, even though he didn't want to show her. And she's understandably scared when he does. But he knows his time is running out, and if he can do nothing else, he wants to save this girl. He doesn't believe he has the strength to defy fate, like Atsuro does. Thankfully though, Atsuro, the protagonist and Yuzu all show up again at this moment, and Atsuro is determined to save Keisuke, who he still thinks of as a friend.
